Welcome back readers to our Meet DCG series. This is our TWELTH installment and we are so glad you are staying tuned to get to know our company. Today, you will be getting to know our Partner Content Creator, Laura Brewer. She works mainly in our website and on our video production, so don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel. Want to find out what Laura’s favorite prank was that she pulled off? How it ended is quite humorous.

Guide us through your career journey: How did you end up here?

  • My career journey with DCG is probably a unique one. I didn’t go through the typical job search route as most have. I graduated high school and was working part time at a childcare and parttime with My Hunting Land (another business within our office at the time). I was helping with their website and cold calling. I slowly got recruited to help with DCG’s website and blogs. Believe it or not had minimal marketing experience when I started aside from website knowledge and a willingness to learn. I started off building webpages and writing blogs. After about 6 months working at DCG (and still at the childcare), I started questioning my childcare job hearing that my hours were getting cut. Almost the day after that news, I was offered a full-time position with DCG. A true blessing at that time. I started full time with DCG and from there it is history. I have learned more than I ever could’ve imagined throughout my 2+ years hereand I am so grateful.

What motivates you in your career?

  • Learning new things and growing in what I know motivates meAlso, my coworkers and our company as a whole motivate me. I am still constantly learning new things everyday whether it is about marketing, Microsoft, etc. I love watching this company grow and want to use the knowledge and skills I have to help us continue that moving forward.

What is your favorite Microsoft product that we offer and why?

  • Almost every product that Microsoft offers intrigues me, so it’s hard to pick just one. I really like the products within Azure, but Azure IoT really captures my attention. Within IoT you can manage, connect, and monitor billions of assets. I attended a session at User Group Summit last year that was demonstrating how IoT benefitthose that work in Field Service industries.  Workers can connect devices such as Raspberry Pi, MXChip, and more. For example, if the barometer or temperature goes beyond a certain threshold then you can program a Flow to turn off that pump or send a notification to a worker nearby. Within Azure’s IoT hub you can see everything in one location and choose to send that data to Power BI, D365, or Logic Apps. It is really cool to see how just one simple solution can provide so many benefits and services.

What influenced your decision to become part of DCG?

  • I would say the main influence would definitely be the great group of people that make up DCG!

What advice would you give to our readers if they are unsure about switching to Microsoft Dynamics 365?

  • I get it, switching can be hard, but our sales team and consultants here make it so much easier to go through the process. They help you throughout the entire migration/implementation without disrupting your current business processes. The thing that I love most about Dynamics is that no other solution has is complete integration. You don’t have to worry about connecting with a different sales solution or finance solution, everything is right there within Dynamics, saving you time and making your life easier. If you are still on the fence feel free to give us a call or even schedule a demo.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

  • The best advice I’ve been given is: Fall down seven times, stand up eight. Almost every successful person out there did not achieve their goal on the first try. They came across stumbles and even failures along the way. If I fall down, I want to be falling forward, and get back up and try again!

If you could compare yourself with any animal, which would it be and why?

  • If I could compare myself to an animal, it would be an eagle. Eagles are fearless but test before they trust. When eagles spot their prey/goal they maintain a keen and attentive eye on it.

What’s your favorite season? Why?

  • Fall is my favorite for sure! It’s just like spring, but with no allergies. It’s the perfect weather for hiking or doing anything outdoors.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

  • My guilty pleasure is probably anything nerdy. I like building mechanical keyboards and looking at cool cars. I also spend quite a bit of time taking & editing photos, which is a big passion of mine.

Where is your favorite place to travel and why?

  • My favorite place is anywhere tropical, or any national parksHowever, I am planning on going to Europe this year and am very excited! I love traveling and experiencing new places, so don’t have a favorite just yet.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

  • When I was a kid, I wanted to be either an astronaut, paramedic, or photographer.

What’s your most hated household chore, why?

  • My most hated household chore is folding/hanging up clothesI’ve never been a fan of it.

What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

  • The weirdest food I’ve ever eaten is deer heart. Thanks to Dustin our CEO for bringing some to the office!

How would you spend one million dollars?

  • I like the saying “more money just makes you more of what you already are, either more of a spender or more of a saver.” Hoping I wouldn’t have to pay any taxes… I would pay 10% to the church, invest 80% of it into the stock market and a few real estate properties, and go on a shopping spree probably spending $60k on others and $40k on myself.

If you could live anywhere on this planet, where would you choose to live and why?

  • Living in a custom-built house in Hawaii would be amazing, but also living in the country with the opportunity to travel is a dream of mine.

What is your favorite holiday? Is there a specific tradition around it that makes it your favorite?

  • Fourth of July is one of my favorites! We have a cookout out at church, play games, have fun activities outdoors, and we shoot off tons of fireworks.

What are some of your pet peeves?

  • A big pet peeve of mine is an internal one. If I can’t understand something or grasp something new quickly, I usually get frustrated.

What’s a secret talent of yours?

  • I don’t think I have any SECRET talents, but I have quite a few weird ones lol. I can juggle basketballs, play 4 instruments, and drive a manual (which is a talent in today’s world).

What’s the best prank you’ve ever played on someone?

  • Wow this is a tough one! Everyone at the office knows I love to pull pranksThe simple pranks are the funniest to me like installing auto hotkey to switch the A and the E key or plugging in an external mouse or keyboard and typing random letters or making slight movements. It’s funny to watch people get really confusedHoweverI did just try to pull a Christmas present prank that kind of backfired on me when I lost a $200 gift lol.

What is your ideal perfect day – temperature, place, plans, etc.?

  • My ideal perfect day is 60 degrees, waking up early to get some things done, trading stocks in the morning and then taking some photos, visiting a coffee shop, going hiking on a trail or two, cruising around, and then finishing my day with warm cup of tea.

Which one do you choose to eat for the rest of your life, breakfast, lunch or dinner?

  • I love eating all throughout the day, but I’d have to say lunch…so I’m only starving half of each day lol.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know our Partner Content Creator, Laura Brewer. She is definitely one of the most creative people on the team. Stay tuned for our next Meet DCG – lucky number THIRTEEN.
