Microsoft understands the importance of helping small and medium-sized businesses grow by creating updates that empower productivity and efficiency. August greeted us with several updates to empower these businesses to work smarter, together.

@Mentions in Office Apps

September brings @Mentions in Word and PowerPoint for Windows and Mac insiders. Getting someone’s attention in your apps has never been easier; hit the comments section, comment the person who you want to notify with an @ symbol and they will then receive an email notification immediately. In the next few months iOS, Android and Excel can expect this update.

Remote Actions

Deployment support for co-management on Windows 10 devices is now being offered through FastTrack. Windows 10 devices can now be co-managed through the integration of Configuration Manager and Intune which enables IT admins to have remote actions on those devices – including factory reset and selective wipe in case of theft or loss.

Discover and Share Videos

Small and medium-sized businesses can now discover and share videos with Microsoft Stream through Microsoft 365 Business, Office 365 Business Premium and Office 365 Business Essentials. Stream is a video service that provides features like auto-generated and searchable transcripts, and AI-powered speaker detection. Videos are now easily discovered and share across your organization.

Money and Mileage

Collect pre-payment to deter no-shows with Microsoft Bookings; provide your customers with a secure and conveniently-direct link to Microsoft Pay from your Microsoft Invoicing-generated invoice. In the coming weeks, customers can also expect the integration of MileIQ (mileage tracking app) with Xero and AutoReimbursement.com to assist with logging mileage and managing vehicle reimbursements promptly.

Hiring Good Candidates

For those customers with a subscription to Microsoft 365 Business and Office 365 Business Premium, Business and Business Essentials who use the LinkedIn Jobs pay-per-click pricing model, are eligible to receive $50 off their first LinkedIn Jobs post. This platform enables you to reach right candidates and continues to recommend better matches over time. These candidates aren’t necessarily visiting job boards but are open to new opportunities. Information about this offer will be emailed directly to eligible customers in the coming weeks.

Extra Updates

  • Get access to live events in Microsoft 365 to connect your company’s team members through engagements with communities, content and communications.
  • Now available for Office Lens mobile app are ink and text annotations.
  • Combine the power of AI and machine learning with your content that’s stored in OneDrive and SharePoint for help with productivity, informed decision-making and securing files with new capabilities in Microsoft 365.

What’s Next?

Coming October 2, 2018, Microsoft Office 365 customers can look forward to adding one more user on an unlimited number of devices per user. The caveat to this is that users can only be signed into five Office applications at the same time.
